It happens in almost every household: your daughter, spouse or even you may be getting ready in a hurry and accidentally drop some makeup on the carpet. This results in a dirty, stained carpet and the rage from the one who’s in charge of cleaning it!

Makeup can be a tricky subject in carpet cleaning but it’s not impossible to get off! To help you keep your cool and reestablish your flooring to its previous glorious state, Cleanpro Fairbanks Professionals has some tips for you!

How to Get Makeup Off Your Carpet!

Powder Makeup

This includes eyeshadows, blush, bronzer and powder! The first thing to keep in mind is to not try to take it with your hands because this may cause the stain to spread further. Instead, get your vacuum out and remove any excess powder.

Now, you need to mix a cup of water with dishwashing soap. Next, take a clean cloth and blot the area until the makeup is all out! Once it’s gone, let the carpet dry and you’ll be done!

Liquid/Cream Products

Horror ensues when a product of this consistency touches the carpet! Their staining power is strong because it has the ability to get deeper into your carpet. Among these offenders are foundations, concealers, primers, and cream blushes.

First, take a spoon and carefully remove any excess (avoid spreading the stain further). Dust some baking soda into it, let it sit so it can absorb some of the moisture, and vacuum it off. Finally, bloat the stain with a clean rag, white shaving cream, and some water to get it all out!

Lip Cosmetics

Lip products, like lip gloss, lipstick, lip balms, lip stains, etc. look great on the face, but not on the carpet! To eliminate them, begin by taking a spoon or knife and getting any residue out of the floor. Then, use a clean towel to lift any product.

Now that you’re left with the stain, mix dishwashing soap and warm water in a bowl, damp a clean cloth with the mixture, and dab the affected area until it is no more! If the stain persists, try tapping it with vinegar. Lastly, blot any excess water out and allow the zone to dry out!

Nail Polish

Nail polish comes in all kinds of colors to make the nails stand out and give the hand a more done up look. Sadly, it doesn’t work well with our carpets! Like with every other carpet mishap, you want to act fast and get any excess polish out of there.

The good thing is that, if you have nail polish at home, it’s probable that you’ll have nail polish remover, too! Take a cotton ball, and just like you would on your nail, dab nail polish remover (acetone-free, preferably) and hot water on the stain to eliminate it.

Waxes

For products like mascara, lip liner, eyeliner and eyebrow pencils, you’ll need to resort to a simple mixture of warm water and some drops of dishwashing soap. Spray the mix into the stain and grab a clean towel to dab the affected area with it! Repeat this process until the stain is gone forever! Lastly, blot any excess water out and allow it all to air dry.

If It Seems Like Nothing Works...

If the stains have really gotten in there, and you have tried everything in this post to get them out without much success, it’s probable that you’ll need a professional team to work on it.
