A loose carpet can mean serious trouble. It looks bad and can even make you trip, fall, and hurt yourself. This is why, upon identifying one at home, you should act on it and get it fixed immediately. If you don’t know how to do it, this post by Cleanpro Fairbanks Professionals has got your back!

How to Fix a Loose Carpet

1. For this project, you’ll need: work gloves to protect yourself, a knee kicker, a hammer, a chisel, a pneumatic stapler and a carpet cutter.
2. First, pull back the loose end of the carpet to expose the tackless underneath. It is a piece of wood that has some nails facing one direction and a bunch of tacks on the opposite side.
3. Place the tackless with the nails facing into the ground, about a quarter of an inch away from its previous position, so the nails won’t slip anymore.
4. Hammer the tackless into this new place.
5. Tug on the carpet and extend it as much as possible. Use the knee kicker to make sure the carpet will be tightly secured.
6. Place the carpet over the tacks in the tackless. With your hammer and the chisel, ensure that the carpet is firmly inserted into the tacks.
7. Then, use the pneumatic stapler to finish setting the carpet in its place.
8. Lastly, cut off any excess carpet from the edges with the carpet cutter. Do not over do it!
